Charlie Slocombe Obituary, Death – Our good friend and former coach passed away suddenly on July 23, 2019, after sustaining a fall on the field while competing in the sport that he cherished the most. A significant period of time had passed since he first became interested in the game. When this event took place, Charlie had recently turned 25 years old. As a result of hearing this disheartening news and becoming more aware of the risk of sudden cardiac arrest among football players, we reached out to Charlie’s family to inquire about the possibility of honouring his memory by raising the necessary funds to have our very own defibrillators available at every game, soccer school, and event that we host.
We were able to raise more over four thousand pounds during the course of our first charity weekend, which took place in 2021. This amount was then matched dollar for dollar by a local medical company that had seen coverage of our fight in the media. As a result of this, we are now in the enviable position of being able to claim that we are the PROUD OWNERS of seven defibrillators. A heartfelt thank you goes out to each and every person who helped.
We believe that this would be a fitting way to pay tribute to Charlie’s life and to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac arrest among football players. This was done in light of the rising knowledge among football players regarding the possibility of experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. We were given a very generous gift in the form of our very first defibrillator from Charlie’s family. This was done with the intention of assisting us in getting off to a strong start on the road toward reaching our fundraising goal.
