David Wise Obituary, Death – David Wise, one of the first journalists to expose the secret operations of the Central Intelligence Agency, passed away on Monday in Washington, D.C. He was a standard-setter for investigative reporting exposing government espionage. Wise was one of the first journalists to expose the clandestine operations of the CIA. David Wise was one of the pioneering journalists who helped bring to light the covert activities of the Central Intelligence Agency. He was 88.
His wife, Joan Wise, indicated that pancreatic cancer was the underlying cause of death, and she confirmed that he passed away at Georgetown University Medical Center. She also stated that the hospital was the location of his death. In 1964, “The Invisible Government,” an explosive expose of the CIA and its covert operations, was published. Mr. Wise was one of the co-authors of this book. Together with Thomas B. Ross.
The author penned the book. The Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A. ), in an effort to keep the contents of the book hidden from the general public, rethought its plan to purchase all copies of the book once it became clear that Random House would simply produce more copies of the book.
In the late 1940s, Mr. Wise began his career in journalism by working as a campus stringer for The New York Herald Tribune while he was still a student at Columbia College. At the time, Mr. Wise was pursuing his bachelor degree. He held the position of editor of the school newspaper, The Spectator, during his final year of high school. During the same year, he worked in the same office as Max Frankel, who would go on to become executive editor of The New York Times.
