Allen Smith Obituary, Death – It is impossible to quantify the amount of anguish that has been caused by the extinction of these animals, and the impact on genetic diversity has been tremendous.
During this challenging time, our family, friends, and supporters have given us an incredible amount of love and support, and we would want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them.
To Each and Every One of My Faithful Followers and Friends, Poultryville at Moss Mountain Farm was severely damaged by a fire early this morning, and we are unable to summon the emotional fortitude to break the news to you at this time.
All of the birds that were being held in our primary breeding barn have passed away, and it is with a very heavy heart that we had to share the word to our friends about this tragedy.
An investment was made in the farm by the Heritage Poultry Conservancy, a charitable organization that provides support for our operations at Moss Mountain Farm. This investment was made so that hatchlings and eggs can be stored safely in a separate location on the property.
To our great good fortune, this area was not in the least bit affected. Our attention will now be directed toward providing care for these young birds, bringing them up until they reach maturity, and safeguarding the genetic diversity of the surviving avian species at Moss Mountain Farm.
We are committed to reestablishing both our breeder program and our display barn, which is affectionately referred to as the “Poultry Palace,” so that we can fulfill our purpose of fostering environmentally responsible agriculture and educating members of the surrounding community.
