Lucas Hill Obituary, Death Cause – On the day that would have been De Pere’s birthday, April 15, 2023, she passed away and entered eternal rest. Elaine Hermsen was born on April 29, 1924, in the city of De Pere, Wisconsin, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Heuvelmans) Hermsen. At St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on May 29, 1942, she tied the knot with Lewis A. Duquaine. They spent 26 years in Fond du Lac, where they were residents and business owners.

During that time, they ran their own company. In 1970, they made De Pere their permanent residence. Elaine was employed at Bellin Hospital for a total of six years, and then spent the subsequent 20 years at Family Practice. Elaine enjoyed the culinary arts immensely, particularly baking and cooking, and she was generous with both her family and her acquaintances. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Susan Duquaine, De Pere; one daughter.

Judy D. Allen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one granddaughter, Rachel (Duquaine) and Chris Goffard, De Pere; great-granddaughters, Catherine and Emma; one brother, Gerald and Georgiana Hermsen, Green Bay; sisters, Bernadette Staddler, Green Bay; Tessie Frisbie, Kansas. Elaine’s parents, four brothers and five sisters, and four brothers-in-law all passed away before she did on September 17, 1986. She was also predeceased by her husband, Lewis A. Duquaine.

On Thursday, members of the family and friends are welcome to stop by the St. Mary Catholic Community located at Pope John XXIII Circle off Sportsmans Drive in the town of Ledgeview between the hours of 9:30 and 11 a.m. Thursday, at eleven in the morning, a Christian burial service will be held at the church, with the Reverend John H. Harper officiating. Mount Calvary Cemetery in De Pere was chosen as the burial location. Instead of sending flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the memorial fund.
