Mary Black Obituary, 74-year-old Woman of Wellsburg Has Passed Away - Death Cause

Mary Black Obituary, Death – Mary Ellen (Painter) Black, 74, of Wellsburg, West Virginia, died away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at her home with her family by her side and the aid of Valley Hospice for peace and comfort. Mary Ellen was a resident of Wellsburg. Wheeling, West Virginia is the place where Mary Ellen was born on June 12th, 1948. She was the daughter of Charles Painter and Mary Ellen (Sandreth) Painter, both of whom passed away before her.

Mary Ellen worked for the State of West Virginia’s Department of Health and Human Resources Office in the field of Human Resources for more than 26 years before taking early retirement. Many people will remember Mary Ellen for the many things she enjoyed doing, such as working on puzzles, playing games on her phone, shooting pool, and cutting the grass; however, the things that people will remember her for the most are caring for the garden, particularly her rose bushes, and constantly capturing beautiful pictures of the sunset.

Mary Ellen Painter was preceded in death by her two brothers, Chuck Painter and Mike Painter, in addition to her own parents. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 23 years, Joe Black, three children, Jeffrey Mitchell, Ronda McAdams and her husband, Terry, all of Wellsburg, WV and Lindy Jo Black Dunlap of Weirton, WV, numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren, three siblings, Theodore Painter of Wellsburg, WV, Carol Painter of Bloomingdale, OH and John Painter of North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.

After the funeral ceremony on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the James Funeral Home in Follansbee, West Virginia (304) 527-1717, family and friends will be received from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 until the time of the funeral service. Following the funeral service, Mary Ellen will be cremated and taken home to remain with her family for the rest of eternity.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the James Funeral Home, which can be found at 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, West Virginia 26037. This will help the family at this difficult time of loss.
